Abstract

This thesis is determined to study the human’s liberty-being in determinism, and to study the human’s liberty-being in Theravāda Buddhist Philosophy. The last destination is to compare the human’s liberty-being of determinism and kamma of Theravāda Buddhist Philosophy. Finding can be concluded such as:

Determinism believes that action of human can conjecture, someone told that could not conjecture because we do not know and understand condition of that action. If we know and understand, we will conjecture it. Determinism believes other that all actions of human have been dictated by pushing up thing and environment to become habit and made human have difference. For this reason human falls in power of conjecture and not liberty, therefore, determinism has view that all things fall in power of condition. There is condition force to be. Nothing was born without condition; all things have not liberty themselves. For action of human is the same. It is not liberty; it must proceed according to causes that rely upon conjecture not liberty.

Theravāda Buddhist Philosophy views liberty of Kamma (action) into two levels, they are; liberty in mandate is conditioned or limitation and other is liberty in supermandane that has no limitation at all. Liberty in Buddhist philosophy’s view means state of being free and clear of any condition of cause and effect, not led back to suffering anymore.    This state is called in the Dhamma language ; Nibbana as supermandane.

The study found; it can observe that Kamma according to Theravāda Buddhist Philosophy has meaning more than Determinism. Theravāda Buddhist Philosophy covers matter and mind or RŪpa and mind but Determinism focuses for matter that taking by eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body. Things beyond sense determinism do not accept, however two views will be origin of relativism. In conclusion, Determinism has intended to fulfill the human’s will and society which it is difficult to realize the true value. Theravāda Buddhist Philosophy has made human and society to understand the truth through inner value.
